Tales of an unremarkable woman in an average midwestern city trying to reach the island

As I was growing up, my family would roll out the Coleman pop-up camper every summer and make the long trek out to the beaches of the east coast. We would always end up in the same two places: Tom's Cove campgrounds on the beautiful island of Chincoteague, Virginia, and then a little further south to the Outerbanks to pop up the camper at the Cape Hatteras beach-side KOA campground in Rodanthe, North Carolina.

While I love both places, it is Chincoteague that calls me back. The Outerbanks is still beautiful and rich with history, but it's become too commercial and popular over the years for my personal taste. Chincoteague, on the other hand, has maintained that small, island town feel despite the tourist season.

Eventually I'll make my way back to the island, and this time when I do, it will be with the intent of making it my permanent home.
